Our coach took us into Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and on to Kuwohi, formerly Clingmans Dome.
At 6,643 feet, it’s the highest point in the Smokies. The steep ½-mile climb gains 330 feet—and then comes the final ramp to the observation tower!
I started out like the hare, then became the tortoise—slowing down, working with my breath and steadily making my way up. People of all ages accepted the challenge, and somewhere along the way, our guide decided we earned our "I Hiked the Appalachian Trail" sticker!
Clouds and mist drifted across the mountains before giving way to moments of sunshine.
One step. One breath. One magnificent view at a time.
Exhilarating—and worth every step!
