Alana's bills itself as a place to enjoy homemade comfort food. It opened in 1993, and serves breakfast and lunch everyday of the week until 2 PM. We were seated in one of two pandemic-born cabana-style park-lets, which in many cases can mean the difference between staying open and closing down for good. The tables are covered with bright colored fruit imprinted tablecloths. You could also sit at the counter indoors and watch the chefs prepare the meals.
Cecile enjoyed their special for the day, a well-seasoned charbroilled Ahi tuna steak served on a Southwestern-style salad and I had a delicious grilled Caprese Panini with fresh sun-dried tomatoes, basil, parmesan, provolone and goat cheese on onion focaccia with a side of noodles.
There are a number of other interesting restaurants to choose from including Mingalaba, a Burmese & Mandarin Cuisine eatery (see photos) that has become trendy, and Mediterranean Kebab that we have eaten at before when our daughter Michelle and Kyle used to live in neighboring Redwood City where we used to babysit our granddaughter Lyla.
Burlingame is a suburb of San Francisco and is often referred to as the City of Trees due to its over 18,000 public trees within the city. The original Burlingame Public Library was destroyed by the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 and a new one was commissioned by the city. The new library’s architecture has won multiple awards and was featured on the cover of American Libraries.
