A Poolside Hula Dance Show at the Marriott Ocean Club Captivates the Crowd

“Hula is the language of the heart. Therefore the heart beat of the Hawaiian people.”

—King Kalakaua

Cecile, Michelle, Kyle and I took Lyla, Emmy and little Gus to a 5 pm Hula dance show. They were absolutely mesmerized—as were we by the dancers—young and old alike swaying gracefully, in their hula skirts.

Hula is more than just a dance. It’s engraved in every part of Hawaiian culture, language, and way of life. Hula connects the past and present transcending time, reviving traditions once marginalized almost to extinction.

The traditional dance with graceful movement of hands, eyes, hips, and legs is the ultimate expression of art. Every hula move requires precision. But it’s the hands that tell the story and legends about the Hawaiian Islands, culture, and nature.
